At Andrews Center, we're looking for a Part Time Skills Trainer in the Mineola area who brings compassion, creativity, and heart to helping residents in a nursing facility with intellectual and developmental disabilities live fulfilling, meaningful lives.
As a Skills Trainer, you'll work hands-on with residents to build independence, strengthen communication and social skills, and promote daily living activities that foster self-esteem and connection. You'll be part of a caring team that values respect, inclusion, and individualized support for every person we serve.
Provide person-centered training to help residents develop life, social, and self-care skills
Support residents in participating in community activities, recreation, and wellness programs
Model and encourage positive behavior, communication, and independence
Work closely with nursing staff, therapists, and case managers to ensure consistent support
Document progress, goals, and activities according to care plans and regulatory requirements
Celebrate every success - big or small - and bring a positive presence to each day
A genuine desire to improve quality of life for older adults and individuals with disabilities
Strong communication, patience, and teamwork skills
Experience in caregiving, direct support, or teaching preferred (we provide training!)
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework in human services a plus
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
